New International Version (NIV)
22 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
2 Rich and poor have this in common:
The Lord is the Maker of them all.
3 The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
This is a scripture my grandmother quoted to me while I was growing up and I’m so glad she did. She grounded me while teaching me to reach higher. Everyday I see something that reminds me of her. Today it was Coconut Cake at the Freight House.
I can still see that sweet face as she chuckled with joy. After all these years, I can still hear the excitement in her voice every time a member of our family or I walked in the door. We had a lot of fun, made a ton of memories and shared enough love to last for eternity!
She was the “Queen of Love.” Life was never about money, fame, or anything temporal, it was about love. Loving God, loving family and enjoying the life we had been blessed with! Shopping in Thrift Stores, driving old cars, surviving on a fixed income and living in a less than perfect house, SHE HAD IT ALL! All that really mattered, the love of God and the love of family! Everything else was secondary. I’m so thankful my grandmother taught me how to value the most important things in this life! Because she loved she lived with the “good name” scripture talks about. I call her the “Queen of Love,” because I don’t know anyone who loved better! Her love came through in her cooking, in her conversation, her gardening, sewing and everything else she did. See, when love really is at the center of all you are, it will shine through in everything you do. When love shines through in all you do, a good name is the result of acting in love.
I miss my grandmother every single day because she left tattoos of love all over my heart. Her impressions of love can never be erased. I hope I learn how to love people as well as she did and when I leave this world I hope I leave a good name that brings joy and peaceful feelings to hearts long after I’m gone. My prayer is that I leave lasting impressions…tattoos of love… on millions of people all over the world.
