Last week, my husband and I had the opportunity to do a Restaurant Review at Las Vias in Hartselle, AL. Las Vias is one of my very favorite restaurants. They are very accommodating to large groups, which I often travel in. Everyone that walks in the door becomes part of the family and they have the best Mexican food around! Las Vias has everything from casual to fancy Mexican cuisine. You can also find something to eat on just about any budget. They also have a very budget friendly lunch menu 7 days a week!
I always get the Pollo Mango, but we decided to try two completely new dishes for the review. We chose Pollo Oaxaca and Mercedes Special. Both dishes were part of the fancier flair off the menu!
The Pollo Oaxaca was a Chicken breast topped with chipotle cheese sauce, one cheese enchilada and a side of grilled vegetable with pineapple served with rice and beans, as well as a guacamole salad. First of all, let me say this meal is a feast and could easily be shared. The portion sizes at Las Vias are well worth the money. This dish is currently $8.99. I loved the tangy heat of the chipolte cheese sauce mixed with the sweetness of the grilled pineapple and onion. The chicken was cooked to perfection. It was moist and tender. The guacamole salad was refreshing! I love to top mine with salsa and fresh lemon juice. All in all this was a great dish! It is pretty spicy, so if you can’t handle the heat, you might want to pick something milder. But for those that don’t mind a little heat, it is an excellent dish with a Hawaiian/Mexican flair.
The Mercedes Special is Las Vias‘ award winning special listed in the “100 Things to Eat in Alabama Before You Die!” It is named after the mother of the Las Vias‘ family of owners, Mercedes. The family atmosphere is so strong that when Mercedes left to go back to Mexico, mine and my daughter’s hearts were broken because we had become so close. The Mercedes Special consists of shrimp, steak and chicken grilled with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and Mexican sausage (Chorizo), topped with melted cheese. It is served with a Guacamole Salad and a side of rice and beans. This too is a generous portion of food. The steak was tender and cooked well, the shrimp tasted fresh from the gulf and the chicken was moist and delicious. The Chorizo was super spicy, but wonderful! If spicy isn’t your thing, you might ask for this creation without the Chorizo. If you are up for it, you will love the layers of flavors cooked together! This dish is definitely not your ordinary Mexican dish. It represents sweet Mercedes, perfectly: it’s pretty, in a class of it’s own, spicy, authentic, and one of a kind.
Las Vias always has excellent service! The food is prepared promptly. The servers are kind and genuinely friendly. The restaurant is always very clean and welcoming. After all the many years I have been eating at Las Vias, I have never been disappointed in their food or service. They definitely put their customers first and provide a festive, loving environment to dine in! I have to tell you, I love my Las Vias Restaurant Family and the food! If you haven’t tried it, give them a try when you are in North Alabama! Tell them “Free Tips From Red Lips” sent you!
